We started out by traveling to the south point of the island aboard Ocean master 1 with Capt.Verde and 1st mate Rudy. The spread consisted of Offshore Specialties skirts in the riggers and and an Orange Rapala CD-26 on the left flat and a Firetiger Bonita on the right. 8:15 first fish was a nice 25 lb wahoo on the OS skirt followed by a 40 lb. Yellowfin Tuna that ate the other Offshore Specialties skirt at 8:20am. We worked the south edge of the reef working the schools of bait and flocks of Boobie birds and Sooty turns the frantic bite was almost immediate as the Rapala and Bonita were hammered as well as one of the OS skirts. We had our hands full as we worked our fish to the boat 3 for 3 on YF tuna weighing 55,56, and 65 lbs later on the scale. Lastly we lost one monster Wahoo that hit the OS skirt and smoked off 200-300 yards of tight drag before shaking off.
Lures used:
-Offshore specialties bullet heads with (1)orange and (1)green skirts.
-Rapala CD-26 Orange
-Yo-Zuri Bonita-Firetiger

Hello again from Diego Garcia...todays report is a 400 lb black marlin that my fishing partner, Paul Perella and I caught on April 27th. The day was slow for Diego Garcia standards...5 minutes before we were to head back to the lagoon, the marlin struck a trolled mullet set about 100' behind the boat. The marlin stayed down most of the 2 hour 10 minute fight, jumping twice... at the two hour mark, we dropped the hammer on the fish, locked down the drag and pulled for everything I had...the double hook set was firmly set in her upper jaw and after a 10 minute reviving, the marlin was released and swam away strong...

Hi from Diego Garcia, a small atoll in the middle of the Indian Ocean. This island is a British Indian Ocean Territory(BIOT) sits due south of India and is a forward base for the US Navy. The fishing here is unbelievable... yellowfin tuna, wahoo, sailfish, black and blue marlin. Todays report is a 90lb wahoo caught on May 17th. We turned right out of the lagoon and trolled down to Cust Point where we cleaned out 5 yellowfin up to 35lbs and this gigantic wahoo in 2 hours. The wahoo struck a large black/orange Marauder trolled in an outrigger...a 10 minute fight later by angler Paul Perella and I stuck this wahoo with the gaff. The wahoo measured 71' and weighed 90 lbs...until next time...we are heading out again tomorrow...<{{{{><

Recently catches of yellowfin and wahoo are confirming that Diego Garcia still remains the #1 unexplored waters in the world. Savage attacks on spreads of Yo-Zuri Bonitas, Wahoo Express and Wahoo Bombs are just an example of the almost guaranteed hot bite in these waters, including the hook up of an estimated 300 pound blue marlin on the Bonita Purple Ninja pattern! No teasers are really necessary on the island's surrounding waters, anything that swims will be eaten, including your bird teasers, bowling pins and fishing lures.

Yes, Military Use Only, that's the island of Diego Garcia, in the middle of the Indian Ocean and there's only one way to fish here, been deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Long hours of work, but quickly forgotten as you reel screams when world class gamefish attack your spread! On my first two 4 hour trips, the smallest wahoo boarded was 24 pounds! With the other five tipping the scales at over 35 pounds each! The place is so untouched, that on my second trip we started to bottom fish and while the bite was on, using wahoo bellies for bait,I landed 11 species of fish using Yo-Zuri metallic sardine jigs! God bless the USA and bless the lucky ones fishing at Diego!
