GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

September 8, 2019

Tropical weather conditions now upon
us, we are seeing on and off sporadic
afternoon thunder showers, which are
common during this month. The passing
of Hurricane Juliette was barely felt,
as it had followed a path far off to
the west, humidity did increase and
there was more afternoon southern
breeze. Overall ocean conditions were
favorable, moderate swells, though
the wind did pick up later in the day.
No new storm system on the horizon
at this time, though with ocean water
temperatures now ranging 80 to 86
degrees, we do need to watch forecasts
closely the next few weeks. Light
crowds of visitors now, normal slack
period, as children are back in school
and summer season winds down.

In recent days there have been quality
sized sardinas being netted and
brought down from the north, anglers
are meeting these bait vendors on
grounds such as La Fortuna and Iman
Bank. Other bait options were slabs of
squid, caballito, ballyhoo, as well as
bolito and skipjack found on
offshore grounds. These same grounds is
where the most consistent action
has been found for the past month and
charters from East Cape are even
making the long two hour run daily,
guess they must have no better
opportunities in closer proximity.

Main action has been for dorado and
yellowfin tuna, an occasional wahoo,
limited mix of bottom species and some
scattered billfish action.
Significant boat pressure on these same
grounds and combined with large
concentrations of natural food sources,
the yellowfin tuna proved to be
more finicky from day to day. Best
chances for the tuna was with sardinas
and strips of squid, a few also
striking on larger baitfish. Catches
ranged
from one tuna, to over five per boat,
sizes ranged from 15 to 70 lb., a lot
of fish in the 20 to 60 lb. class.

More numbers of dorado were found a bit
closer to shore than where the
yellowfin bite was, still big numbers
of very small sized dorado, with a
smaller percentage of keeper sized
dorado in the mix. Sardinas for bait
was
best bet, also trolling hoochies and
feathers, as well as drift fishing
with strips of squid.

Off the bottom the highlights were a
few hog sized amberjack, up to 95 lb.,
one 57 kilo grouper hauled up by local
hand liner. A scattering of pargo,
pompano and triggerfish rounded out
bottom action. A few smaller sized
roosterfish were found trolling inshore
stretches near the local marina.

Marlin anglers were limited, as more
anglers were now targeting the tuna,
though a couple of black marlin hook
ups were reported, big fish that
ended up being lost after hours of
battling. Some smaller sized blue and
striped marlin were also reported, no
big numbers, but every day these
billfish are being encountered.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 68 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 6 striped marlin, 5 blue
marlin, 275 dorado, 8 wahoo, 145
yellowfin tuna, 6 leopard grouper, 14
Mexican bonito, 15 yellow snapper, 8
barred pargo, 8 pompano, 15 amberjack,
12 roosterfish, 4 jack crevalle and 38
triggerfish.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

September 1, 2019

Since the passing of Tropical Storm IVO
last week, where the Los Cabos
region did receive some much needed
rainfall without too high of wind,
weather patterns have been stable,
though just now there is a new T S
Juliette brewing to the southwest, this
system is forecast to follow a path
further away from the Baja Peninsula
new storms developing at this time.
The next three weeks is historically
the time frame with the highest chance
of hurricanes striking Southern Baja,
so we are all hoping that this year
we do not have any disasters. We have
felt a very slight cooling early
morning, but days have been warm and
humid with heat index over 100 degrees.

Starting last weekend there was decent
action for yellowfin tuna up to 100
lb. on the Iman Bank. Through this week
the bite became more sporadic, lots
of boat pressure on this one area since
this has been location where the
best chances of catching nice fish has
been. Boats from as far away as the
East Cape are making the long run south
to fish these same grounds. Drift
fishing with strips of squid was the
main deal, some limited availability
of sardinas, the tuna also were hitting
on the live caballito. Anglers were
feeling fortunate to land just one
yellowfin, a handful had as many as
three, and average size were 35 to 60
lb. anglers had better success using
leader material of 50 to 60 lb., many
of the larger tuna were lost after
extended battles. Also one black marlin
estimated to be well over 400 lb.
was battled for over three hours before
finally being lost due to lighter
leader.

Dorado were found a little closer to
shore than were the tuna, off of
Cardon, La Fortuna, Punta Gorda, many
juvenile sized dorado in the area,
had to search to find any over 10 lb.
Overall numbers of dorado were down
from previous weeks. Wahoo are in the
area, as they were seen free swimming
and feeding in the chum, though these
fish proved finicky and only a few
were actually landed, these fish can
become sluggish when water temperature
are over 80 degrees.

Off the bottom there was limited action
for yellow snapper, red snapper,
cabrilla, amberjack and triggerfish,
more snapper on yo-yo jigs early in
the day, after that tough pickings.
Only a few roosterfish found trolling
closer to shore, smaller sized, mixed
in was an occasional jack crevalle,
not much inshore trolling this time of
year.

Billfish action also slowed down, more
smaller sized striped marlin, a
couple of larger black marlin that were
lost after long battles. Weather is
looking good for the time being, slight
swells, warm blue water with lots
of baitfish in the area so we are
optimistic that reports will improve
soon.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 62 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 5 striped marlin, 3 blue
marlin, 185 dorado, 3 wahoo, 70
yellowfin tuna, 6 leopard grouper, 26
Mexican bonito, 14 yellow snapper, 4
barred pargo, 1 amberjack, 2 dogtooth
snapper, 3 roosterfish, 5 jack crevalle
and 38 triggerfish.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

August 25, 2019

The week started off with calm weather
patterns, though far off of Southern
Mexico there was a low pressure system
that was developing, this season has
been very quiet for tropical storm
strikes on the Los Cabos region, so
everyone was anxious, watching
forecasts closely. Starting Thursday
morning
through Sat. there were local Port
closures due to stormy ocean
conditions,
though this system was name Tropical
Storm Ivo stayed over 300 miles away,
off to the west, paralleling the Baja
coast towards the north. Seas were up
to three meters, sporadic wind gusts
ranging 15 to 30 mph, scattered
thunder showers, with several inches of
measurable rainfall received and
even more in isolated areas. Great to
actually final receive the rainfall,
though also unfortunate for anglers who
were not able to fish during shut
down conditions. Ever ting does look
clear for this coming week.

This was a shortened week for
sportfishing operations, though the
first
half of the week was decent, there were
caballito, ballyhoo, moon fish and
slabs of squid available for bait. Also
large schools of baitfish on the
same popular fishing grounds, bolito,
small skipjack, etc…Main target
species were dorado, yellowfin tuna and
billfish. Not much off the bottom
except some early morning jig action
for various pargo, cabrilla and a few
amberjack. Most charters were targeting
the surface action, with clean blue
water being found close to shore and
ocean currents in the 80 to 84 degree
range. The majority of the charters
were working areas from off of Palmilla
Point to the Gordo Banks, Iman and San
Luis, a few venturing to Vinorama.

Yellowfin tuna were congregated around
the Iman Bank and to the inside,
though getting them the bite was not
easy, seemed he best chances came
early in the day, while drift fishing
strips of squid, these tuna are
finicky, lots of natural food source to
gorge on and also becoming wiser to
the boat pressure every day, fleets as
far away as Buena Vista are fishing
these same grounds. Most of the
yellowfin tuna were in the 20 to 65
lb.,
chances at larger though. Anglers were
fortunate to land one or two. More
numbers of dorado, while trolling
various lures and baits, not as
numerous
as previous weeks, the majority were
juvenile sized, with many were being
released, a handful of nicer sized
keeper dorado in the mix. Also even an
occasional wahoo lurking on these same
areas, no numbers, but they are in
the area.

There were now chances at very large
marlin, this is the time of year when
the blue and black marlin are found in
local waters, attracted by all of
the food fish, such as black skipjack,
bolito, dorado and smaller yellowfin
tuna. There were at least a couple of
black marlin up to 400 lb. landed
early this week, quite a few blue
marlin as well, most were in the 120 to
250 lb. range, striped marlin were
hanging around, many small 50 to 70 lb.
stripers, trolling lures or bait was
the main techniques, on the high spots
of covering open blue water.

So we are hoping for more days on the
water with better weather and
steadily improving action this coming
week

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 38 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 2 black marlin, 9 striped
marlin, 7 blue marlin, 115 dorado, 4
wahoo, 22 yellowfin tuna, 4 leopard
grouper, 7 Mexican bonito, 5 yellow
snapper, 2 barred pargo, 2 pompano, 2
amberjack, 2 dogtooth snapper, 2
roosterfish, 6 jack crevalle and 24
triggerfish.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

August 18, 2019

The word travels quickly these days, as
more number of anglers were
arriving after hearing about reports of
yellowfin tuna finally biting, as
well as wide open dorado and some blue
marlin action. So we saw the
sportfishing fishing were busier this
past week, weather cooperated, light
winds, moderate ocean swells, no
tropical storms to deal with. There is
a
new system just developing off Southern
Mexico, late next week we will know
what happens with this, could finally
get some measurable rainfall. This
week the humidity increased, a couple
of mornings we felt very light
drizzle, did not amount to much at all.
Ocean temperature ranged from 78 to
84 degrees.

Bait suppliers were still able to find
the schooling sardinas just north of
the marina jetty, also there were some
caballito, slabs of squid and
ballyhoo. Most charters were now
working the fishing grounds from the
Gordo
Banks’ and north to Vinorama.

The best chance at the yellowfin tuna
was inside of Iman Bank, near La
Fortuna and the Twenty-five spot,
anglers were have chances at one, two
of
three tuna up to 65 lb. Sometimes hard
to keep away from schooling dorado
which were on these same grounds, most
were small sized and being released,
though a few nicer fish mixed in.
Outside of Cabo San Lucas we heard of a
few cow sized yellowfin tuna and there
were reports of some larger tuna
seen on the Outer Gordo Banks, this
time of year things can change rapidly.

Early morning there were a few snapper,
cabrilla and amberjack accounted
for on yo-yo jigs over the high pots,
though with the calm, hot and humid
conditions most anglers were wishing to
move around some to cool off.

Blue marlin were hitting throughout the
region, striking on trolled lures,
a few striped marlin as well, we also
heard of at least one 300 lb. black
marlin that was landed from a small
panga. Most of the blue marlin we have
seen were in the 120 to 250 lb. range.

Not much inshore action being done
now, time of year that this action
fades out. We did see a few dogtooth
snapper this week, though these were
found over same high spots where
charters were drift fishing. A handful
of
pompano, bonito and yellow snapper were
found off shallow rock piles.

The combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 84 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 1 black marlin, 13 striped
marlin, 10 blue marlin, 420 dorado, 3
wahoo, 105 yellowfin tuna, 11 leopard
grouper, 18 Mexican bonito, 16 yellow
snapper, 3 barred pargo, 4 pompano,
11 amberjack, 3 dogtooth snapper, 5
roosterfish, 9 jack crevalle and 24
triggerfish.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

August 11, 2019

Typical moderate numbers of tourists
now arriving in the heat of the
summer, braving the warm humid climate.
Tropical conditions, highs of about
90 degrees, though feels more like a
100 degrees when calculating the heat
index. A relatively quiet week for
Eastern Pacific tropical storm
activity,
there are several low pressure area
developing at this time, the forecast
appears to have these systems drifting
off to the west, away from any
contact with land. The next six weeks
are historically the time when storms
can strike this region. Water
temperatures have recently ranged from
77 to
83 degrees, there have been two meter
swells and some south winds later in
the day, but the overall ocean
conditions have been favorable for
anglers,
with clean blue water now being found
close to shore.

For the past week the local panga bait
netters have been working the surf
zone just to the north of the Puerto
Los Cabos Marina jetty, finding good
sized schools of sardinas, but they
were having to work hard, other options
were caballito, slabs of squid and
ballyhoo.

Starting on Monday the yellowfin tuna
finally decided to bite, this action
was on the grounds from La Fortuna,
Twenty-Five Spot, to Iman Bank. These
yellowfin were ranging in sizes
averaging 30 to 65 lb., though we did
hear
of one tuna of about 100 lb. being
landed Friday. Some charters had as
many
as four tuna, others felt fortunate
with just one, but at least these tuna
were becoming more active. The fish
were hitting on sardinas, squid and
some on chunk bait from skipjack or
bolito.

Dorado action was wide open on these
same grounds, often not giving the
tuna a chance to even get to any baits.
Problem was that most of these
dorado have been very small, but
occasionally some larger fish were
mixed
in, the key is to release the smaller
dorado with care and try to fill your
personal limit with a couple of nicer
sized fish. Offshore, on the marlin
grounds there has been a better chance
of finding large bull dorado, fish
to over 40 lb., though not many
numbers, just a few scattered nicer
quality
fish.

Marlin bite was sporadic, but at this
time there can be opportunities for
sailfish, striped, blue and black
marlin. There was one black caught from
a
panga this week, weighed in the 400 lb.
range. Several blue marlin were
also reported, a handful of out of
season striped marlin, as well as a
couple of sailfish.

No wahoo to speak of, surface action
now mainly being for dorado, tuna or
billfish. Bottom action produced more
triggerfish than anything else, a few
yellow snapper, bonito, island jack and
leopard grouper. Though more
anglers were targeting the dorado and
tuna at this time. Along the shore
there were a few roosterfish still
hanging around, as well as jack
crevalle, though with increased surf
activity this season is now winding
down.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 69 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 2 sailfish, 1 black marlin,
4 striped marlin, 4 blue marlin, 450
dorado, 52 yellowfin tuna, 8 leopard
grouper, 45 Mexican bonito, 14 yellow
snapper, 1 island jack, 3 amberjack,
8 roosterfish, 6 jack crevalle and 38
triggerfish.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

August 4, 2019

New month is feeling more tropical by
the day, increased humidity, last
week there were distance tropical
storms, Erick and Flossie, both headed
far off to the west causing no impact
with land. Presently there is a new
storm named Gil, is expected to follow
the same direction off west. Swells
have been moderate, winds mainly out of
the south later in the day,
unpredictable from day to day when the
breeze might pick up. Ocean
temperatures are ranging from 80 to 86
degrees. High daytime temperature
averaging 90 degrees.

The last few days there were sardinas
found schooling just to the north of
the marina jetty, so this has been a
bonus bait option as well as
caballito, ballyhoo and slabs of squid.
Most common fish has been dorado,
spread throughout the area,
particularly around the Iman Bank. The
majority
of these fish were smaller in size,
though a handful of larger fish to over
20 b. were mixed in. There has been a
lot of catch and release going on.
Most charters were easily getting their
two dorado limits per person limits.

Very few yellowfin tuna were landed,
though many were seen on different
grounds, just with all of the natural
food source in the area they just did
not appear to be that hungry, the tuna
that were caught were in the 15 to
25 lb. range. A few wahoo were
reported, found trolling in open water,
on
marlin and dorado grounds. Marlin
action slowed down compared to previous
week, though there were still chances
at striped and blue marlin, also we
saw at least one sailfish, have yet to
report any black marlin this season.

Bottom action consisted mainly of
triggerfish, with an occasional leopard
grouper, amberjack or snapper. Some
days various shark species were also
hooked into while trying the bottom
action. Most charters are now
concentrating more on surface bite.

Along the shoreline there were a
handful of roosterfish reported, though
the season for these fish is now
winding down.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 72 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 2 sailfish, 3 striped
marlin, 2 blue marlin, 6 wahoo, 255
dorado, 8 yellowfin tuna, 11 leopard
grouper, 12 Mexican bonito, 16 red
snapper, 1 Pacific golden eyed tile
fish, 4 yellow snapper, 9 amberjack, 6
roosterfish, 4 jack crevalle and 90
triggerfish.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

July 28, 2019

Tropical conditions, high temperatures
averaging 90 degrees, south wind
early in the week, settling down over
the weekend. There was the
development of Tropical Storm Dalila,
this system moved far to the west, no
impact with land, though there was
local tropical disturbances flaring up,
early in the week over the mountainous
region north of San Jose del Cabo
and in La Paz, where they had major
thunderstorms, it is now the time when
this tropical actives increases.

There were moderate ocean swells and
southern winds the first half of the
week, this contributed to stirring up
water conditions once again, greener
currents along the shoreline, clean
blue water found further offshore.
Ocean temperature is now in the 78 to
85 degree range, off of San Jose and
towards the north offshore, is where
the water is now warmest.

Conditions are now cleaning up closer
to shore, crazy how all through the
month of July conditions were changing
back and forth. It is now the season
when things can change rapidly, both
with the fishing action and the
weather.

Bait vendors offered a mix of
caballito, mullet, ballyhoo and slabs
of
squid. More open water trolling done
offshore, with blue marlin strikes
being reported daily, particularly
around the 1150 spot, also some striped
marlin and nicer sized dorado, to over
40 lb. Chances of finding porpoise
with associated yellowfin tuna, though
nothing consistent for tuna now,
some local commercial pangeros found
some yellowfin to 60 lb. north of
Vinorama.

Closer to shore from Cardon to Vinorama
there were good numbers of smaller
school sized dorado, under 10 lb., some
very small, remember catch and
release on these small dorado, limits
are two per license. As clean water
moves closer to shore we expect some of
the larger bulls to move in, now
most of the larger dorado reported are
out on the marlin grounds.

We had a surprise to see some activity
by wahoo, handful of these
speedsters were landed while trolling
offshore waters, has been a while
since we seen these fish, so that is a
great sign. More looking for various
surface action now, not much besides
triggerfish and an occasional snapper
or amberjack off the bottom now. Along
the shore there were still
roosterfish and jack crevalle, though
that action became less consistent
and actually more anglers are opting to
target the dorado which has been
the main bite for local charters.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –

July 21, 2019

With summer progressing, we saw light
numbers of anglers arriving this past
week, though weather conditions are
stable with no tropical storms forming
at this time. Ocean swells are moderate
and winds were not much of a
factor, swirling from the south mainly
later in the day. Mostly sunny
skies, high temperatures in the mid-
80s, but with combined heat index it is
feeling more like 95 degrees. Ocean
conditions turned over yet again to
start the week following strong south
wind, this laid down the next day and
since the conditions have rebounded,
back up to 80 degrees and also blue
within a couple miles of shore.

Most of the fishing action for local
fleets was concentrated from the Iman
Bank and north to Vinorama, this is
where the water was cleaner. Using
caballito, moonfish, ballyhoo and
strips of squid anglers working the
bottom structure for a few red snapper,
bonito, cabrilla and amberjack,
though this action was spotty.
Highlight off the bottom were a handful
of
nice amberjack up to 50 lb.

Some yellowfin tuna were found near
Vinorama, trolling hoochie type lures,
drift fishing with strips of squid and
also some on yo-yo jigs, these tuna
were in the 10 to 20 lb. range, mid-
week was best, bite was on and off,
just like the ocean conditions.

We saw increased numbers of dorado
showing up, though the majority of
these
were smaller sized fish, but again a
couple of much larger bulls weighing
over 50 lb. were reported from a
cruiser fishing near Cabrillo Seamount,
scattered throughout the region,
striking on a variety of trolled
feathers
and rigging baits.

Along the shoreline anglers still had
chances at roosterfish, though
numbers were less now than in previous
weeks, more jack crevalle than
anything else.

Best chances at billfish seemed to be
straight offshore of San Jose del
Cabo and towards the 1150 spot, though
we did not have many anglers that
did try this option, we heard of
reports of some blue marlin strikes.

The combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 57 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 2 striped marlin, 2 blue
marlin, 29 dorado, 27 yellowfin tuna, 1
broomtail grouper, 1 pompano, 1
porgy, 8 leopard grouper, 26 Mexican
bonito, 16 red snapper, 4 yellow
snapper, 11 amberjack, 15 roosterfish,
32 jack crevalle and 24 triggerfish.

Anglers –

July 14, 2019

Now in the midst of the summer season
we are progressively feeling warmer
conditions and increased humidity. High
temperatures around 90 degrees,
quite a few tropical clouds earlier in
the week, burning off with the heat
of the day. Ocean water temperatures
are now ranging from 76 to 86 degrees,
warmest area offshore and towards Los
Frailes. Swift currents sweeping in
and causing off colored green
conditions sporadically in isolated
areas,
changing daily, but no cold water now,
80 degrees all the way to the Golden
Gate Banks on the Pacific. Steady
southern swells push in this time of
year, surfers from all over the world
arrive, in recent days 5 to 6 foot
swells were common. Winds were
variable, swirling from north, east and
south, creating rolling seas,
especially later in the day.

There have already been several named
tropical storm systems follow paths
out west, presently there is a low
pressure system moving off to the west,
located several hundred miles from
southern Baja, is not forecast to make
any impact on land, just a bit more
tropical feeling.

Live bait available has been the same
now for the past month, caballito,
moonfish, mullet, ballyhoo and slabs of
squid. On the offshore grounds
there are increased schools of small
skipjack and bolito moving in and
these always can make good bait option
for larger gamefish species.

The warmer water has also brought in
larger marlin, in recent days we have
heard of daily reports of blue marlin
being hooked into, at least one of
about 240 lb. was landed and others to
over 400 lb. were battled and broken
off. Still some striped marlin in the
area, but most of them are now closer
to Southern California searching for
cooler water and their preferred
mackerel food source.

Early in the week anglers found a small
grade of football sized yellowfin
tuna spread out in open water around
the San Luis Bank, trolling small
hoochies produced scattered results,
time of year we see these small tuna
show. Only a few yellowfin tuna to 50
lb. were reported this week, so far
nothing going on larger cows being
seen, the next several weeks is when
things change rapidly and we would
expect to see schools of larger
yellowfin tuna move on to local
grounds. No wahoo reported, only a
handful
of dorado reported, the majority small
sized and being released.

Off the bottom there was on and off
action for red snapper, amberjack,
leopard grouper and bonito. Anglers
used yo-yo type jigs, as well as
various baits. This is the month when
we normally see the largest amberjack
of the season, this week we weighed in
a 83 lb. amberjack for angler Eric
Chen, from Las Vegas, he fished with
skipper Chuy on the super panga
Fortuna. We have not seen the run of
dogtooth snapper develop yet, this is
peak time for them.

Along the shore there is scattered
action for jack crevalle and
roosterfish
to over 40 lb., though we have not
really seen a significant big run of
these fish this year.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 69 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 7 striped marlin, 3 blue
marlin, 8 dorado, 24 yellowfin tuna, 3
broomtail grouper, 14 leopard
grouper, 95 Mexican bonito, 52 red
snapper, 6 yellow snapper, 19
amberjack,
30 roosterfish, 38 jack crevalle and 45
triggerfish.

Anglers –

July 7, 2019

This week the season’s first major
hurricane developed and passed off to
the west of the Baja Peninsulas, this
system, Hurricane Barbara reached
close to category five strength,
luckily for everyone this storm
followed a
path far enough offshore to not cause
any impact with land. We did feel an
increase in humidity and ocean swells
increased noticeably. Another
significant weather factor was the
strong south winds that picked up early
in week, once again pushing in cooler
greenish currents, dropping water
temperatures into the 68 degree range.
Now the winds have resided, but the
damage has been done and we now have to
patiently wait for conditions to
rebound, which presently is a day to
day process, now the water is starting
to look a bit cleaner and is up to the
72/73 degree range.

Anglers were using caballito, moonfish
mainly for bait, finding very tough
fishing conditions all around. Surface
action was extremely slim after
Monday. Anglers that did work hard off
of the bottom structure accounted
for a mix of red snapper, Mexican
bonito, cabrilla, triggerfish and
amberjack, though this action was not
consistent and changed daily. A
handful of quality fish were taken, we
saw amberjack and roosterfish to
over 40 lb., also one nice grouper of
about 70 lb., though most charters
averaged just a handful of fish in
combination. Anglers were using various
baits, as well as yo-yo jigs for this
action off of the rocky high spots.

The action for tuna, dorado and
billfish came to standstill due to the
green cold water, though the week
started off with a few marlin being
found, one blue marlin of an estimated
250 lb. was released, and a
scattering of striped marlin were also
accounted for. We do expect for
conditions to rebound quickly and then
we anticipate much improved action.

Along the shoreline it was the
roosterfish and jack crevalle that were
dominated the action, though this bite
also became very difficult in the
turned over conditions.

*T*he combined sportfishing fleet
launching out of the panga area from
Puerto Los Cabos Marina sent out an
estimated 53 charters for the week and
anglers reported an approximate fish
count of: 3 striped marlin, 1 blue
marlin, 1 dorado, 2 yellowfin tuna, 2
broomtail grouper, 8 leopard grouper,
1 gulf grouper, 125 Mexican bonito, 32
red snapper, 5 yellow snapper, 15
amberjack, 26 roosterfish, 22 jack
crevalle and 45 triggerfish.
